A life becomes interesting on the page not because everything that happened was extraordinary, but because of the way a writer has learned to see it.

Whisper Éditions looks for memoir and life writing shaped by memory, identity, family, belonging, transformation and the experiences that alter the course of an ordinary life. We are interested in intimate stories, but not confession for confession’s sake. The personal must open onto something larger.

Writers may begin with childhood, love, loss, displacement, motherhood, reinvention or a moment in contemporary history. Social events and the realities of our time can enter the work too, when they are approached through lived experience rather than political argument.

We look for honesty in craft, vulnerability without exhibitionism, and writers who can turn individual experience into something another person can recognise as their own.
